Exhibit: A Celebration of Culture and Art

The Brea Civic & Cultural Center Gallery is currently hosting a remarkable multi-media exhibit, "We Are Orange County," which brings together the artistic expressions of 27 Orange County artists. This exhibit, running until August 12, provides a unique perspective on the county's diverse cultural heritage, showcasing works that explore ethnicity, identity, and artistic storytelling.

An Artistic Fusion of Cultures

The exhibit is a tribute to the multi-cultural fabric of Orange County, offering visitors a chance to view over 100 works of art, including paintings, photography, ceramics, calligraphy, and mixed media pieces. The exhibit sheds light on the individuality of each artist while fostering a collective narrative that binds the community together.

Marie Sofi, the Gallery Coordinator, emphasizes the significance of this showcase, stating, "Each artist's work reflects their cultural heritage and allows people to see and appreciate how it has been integrated into our community."

Featured Artists and Highlights

One of the prominent featured artists is Subodh Maheshwari, an Indian-born painter and sitar musician whose work blends the essence of her heritage with a contemporary American perspective. Her nine paintings in the exhibit offer viewers a mesmerizing journey through her keen sense of pattern, sensuous color choices, and subtle imagery of the human body.

A particularly captivating installation piece by Maheshwari, titled "Soul and Deeds," embodies the Indian philosophy of life. The three candles in the piece symbolize the soul, the candle drippings represent karma, and the flowers surrounding the pedestal serve as an homage to the soul’s importance.

Other renowned artists in the exhibit include Dr. Ming Yeh, a Chinese brush painter known for his Emmy-winning work, and Esther Preston, a 100-year-old Black American artist whose talent in creating exquisite handmade paintings continues to astonish viewers.

Experience the Exhibit

Visitors can experience "We Are Orange County" at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center Gallery, with free admission. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday (noon to 5 PM) and Thursdays (noon to 8 PM). A special preview reception was held on July 1, allowing guests to engage with the artists and immerse themselves in the stories behind the artwork.

For more details, interested visitors can contact Marie Sofi at (714) 990-7730.

This exhibit is more than just an art display—it is an exploration of culture, heritage, and identity through artistic expression. It offers the community a chance to witness the power of diversity and the way it shapes Orange County’s vibrant artistic landscape.
