March 2024: Artist Honored for Environmental Art Excellence in International Sustainability-Themed Showcase

Redlands, CA – Acclaimed artist Subodh Maheshwari is set to present a slide program on "Symbolism in My Painting" at the Redlands Art Association's (RAA) general meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 1998. The presentation will delve into her unique artistic style, which seamlessly blends Eastern symbolism with Western composition.
The event will be held at the RAA Art Center and Gallery, 215 E. State St., at 7 p.m., and is open to the public for a small guest fee.
Maheshwari’s works are described as emotional, mysterious, personal, and humorous. A native of Aligarh, North India, she has gained recognition both nationally and internationally, with numerous exhibitions and accolades, including the Regional Fellowship Award from the University of California, Irvine, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree.
Alongside her own artistic endeavors, she teaches art and Hindi, maintains a studio in Corona, and has been an instructor at Riverside Community College since 1990. She has also given lecture-slide presentations for various museums and arts groups throughout Los Angeles and Orange County.
In addition to the presentation, Maheshwari will conduct a watercolor and collage workshop at RAA on Saturday, November 7. Participants will explore techniques using textures on watercolor paper, focusing on negative and positive painting techniques. A suggested materials list will be provided, and paper will be available for purchase. The workshop fee is $40 for RAA members and $45 for non-members. For details, contact Sandy Brath Griffith at (909) 795-7130.
Maheshwari draws inspiration from Rajasthani and Moghul art, incorporating Hindi and Sanskrit passages into her works. “My paintings give me space to feel and express by visual delight in color, shape, and form,” she explains.
The evening will also feature woodturner John Nielsen, who transitioned from furniture making to creating unique wooden art pieces. His work reflects his love of trees, often repurposing logs he cuts himself to craft bowls and sculptures.
This special event at Redlands Art Association promises to be a fascinating exploration of diverse artistic expressions, highlighting the intersection of Eastern and Western influences in contemporary art.
