March 2024: Artist Honored for Environmental Art Excellence in International Sustainability-Themed Showcase

Born in Aligarh, India, and now a celebrated artist and educator in California, Subodh Kela Maheshwari (MFA) has spent decades weaving her multicultural heritage into vibrant, emotionally charged artworks. Her induction into the 2023 Marquis Who’s Who in America—a prestigious honor recognizing lifetime achievement—is a testament to her impact on fine art, education, and social advocacy.

Maheshwari’s work is a symphony of Eastern symbolism and Western composition, inspired by 16th-century Rajasthani miniatures, Mughal art, and the bold florals of Georgia O’Keeffe. Her paintings, such as New Birth (acrylic on canvas, 2013), explore themes of renewal, love, and societal challenges—from women’s rights to climate change.
"In the threshold of my life, my present is the window to the past and a key to the future."
— Subodh Maheshwari
With over 30 years of exhibitions—from the 1988 Seoul Olympics to New York’s Grimandi Gallery—Maheshwari’s art transcends borders. Recent highlights include:
Beyond the canvas, Maheshwari has shaped minds as an art educator at Riverside City College (since 1990) and a therapist at Chino Hills Women’s Prison. Her workshops on Indian culture, henna, and art therapy reflect her belief that "creation brings peace to the soul."

Selected for her professional integrity, awards, and societal contributions, Maheshwari joins an elite registry dating to 1899. The honor underscores her dual role as artist and activist:
"Subodh bathes her artwork in glistening pools of saturated hues, capturing the world’s timeless vitality."
— Ruthie Tucker, Amsterdam Whitney Gallery
Explore Her World:
